Fender® Champion 600 Reissue Tone Upgrade Kits
Our Fender® Champion 600 Reissue Tone Upgrade Kit does not modify the stock circuit. Rather, it upgrades "tone critical" parts for a vast improvement in the amplifier's tone. This is done by replacing the capacitors in the amplifier's tone stack and driver stage coupling with premium quality Jupiter Vintage Tone Capacitors, upgrading to tubes to JJs and, in the Premium Kit, upgrading the speaker to the Weber Sig 6 ceramic speaker. There is a slight modification in circuit by replacing the preamp filter cap with a capacitor of a different value.
"I'm having a little trouble imagining this amp sounding any better than it does now. I swapped out the 4 caps yesterday. That's C2, and C1, C8 and C9 in the fixed "tone stack." What I ended up with surprised the hell out of me; I just didn't expect there to be such a striking difference in the timbre of the amp.
The low end is tighter and less mushy, and the high end is smoother and no longer screechy and clanky. (It sounds like I'm describing some of the 7 dwarves here.) It's just warm and full, and it's lost that small-amp harshness.
I'm sorry I was so skeptical about these caps. I couldn't conceive how changing a few inexpensive components can have such a profound impact on the sound (and feel) of an amp. But there it is; my Champion 600 acts like a completely different amp. One that's bigger, more expensive, and more refined through the stock speaker, and through my V30 it sounds like a Deluxe or a Princeton, maybe even a Pro.
